Encountering Questions

Does he think we asked where he’s been

Because he doesn’t have white skin?

Should they know I’m innocent?

Not a danger?  Not a threat?

Should they know I’m innocent?

Not a danger?  Not a threat?

Could this be what they need to do?

To have been thorough when they’re through?

What’s with his scared and guilty look?

We know we go by the book.

But maybe the fear in his eyes

Is him expecting otherwise.

Should I choose not to resist

If they wrongly cuff my wrist?

Can I comply and still be strong?

Knowing I’ve done nothing wrong?

Must we bring him in right away?

Are we sure?  No other way?

Could our choice to escalate

Lead us to a tragic fate?

Can we agree all our actions

Are best made mindful of loved ones?

They might be right.  It’s worth a try.

To see things from the other side.
